To serve as a professional team of people dedicated to elevating public awareness toward landing human explorers on Mars within a decade.
Mars Society Kenya is a non-profit organization with a youthful community of Space enthusiasts focused on the Space sector. We are the Kenyan Chapter of the American worldwide volunteer-driven space-advocacy non-profit organization under Dr. Robert Zubrin.
Our goals and mission are to prepare the general public to support Humans-to-Mars and inspire more Elon Musks around the world.
Our hope and desire is to partner with the Kenyan government in reviving the Space industry in Kenya, through forming partnerships to deliver either individual or community projects.
Kenya is one of the few countries globally with its own space port. The country is slowly rising from the dust in terms of its involvement in the Space industry and having such a goal first and then working backwards through the measures we as a country need to take in order to achieve this goal is surely the best way to go as we advance our presence in the Space above and beyond.

To do this, Mars Society Kenya is working on establishing a Space City. The Space City will be a fully-fledged space academy which will also feature a Mars Simulation Habitat. MARS SOCIETY KENYA has decided to establish a Mars Habitat Simulation Programme / Research Station to be set up in the country. The region is suitable for an MDRS, which will enable both the citizens and any other willing party to practice and experiment on a Martian-like environment, even as we purpose to eventually have a human presence on Mars.

Isaac Gathu
President/Founder
An I.T. Technician by profession, a space enthusiast, the President/Founder of Mars Society Kenya, an Analog Astronaut and an ‘Afronaut in Training’. Isaac is passionate about space habitats, human space exploration, Lunar commerce, the environment, and space exploration, particularly in Mars. His vision of founding Mars Society Kenya is to promote the Kenyan space industry while raising a professional team of Kenyans dedicated to elevating public awareness toward landing human explorers on Mars within a decade with a dream of one day being part of the solution as humankind on Mars will be involved in terraforming the ‘Red Planet’.
Felistus Wanjiru
Secretary
A multidisciplinary researcher with a unique blend of expertise in microbiology, space science and climate change. With a solid foundation in microbiology, Felistus has expanded her focus to include space-based research, particularly in the field of astrobiology, exploring how microbial life can thrive in extreme environments analogous to outer space. Her work investigates the potential for life beyond Earth while contributing to space exploration strategies that can inform terrestrial sustainability.
Francis Omondi
Treasurer/STEM coordinator
A seasoned Digital Transformation Strategist with over a decade of experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), information technology, and strategic leadership. Throughout his career, Francis has spearheaded data-driven decision-making processes, implemented innovative technologies and managed complex ICT projects, consistently delivering measurable results. With a passion for leveraging technology to drive organizational growth and efficiency, Francis is committed to guiding organizations through the dynamic challenges of digital transformation.
Edel Njoki
Board Member
An experienced construction professional with a strong focus on the technical and execution aspects of building projects. With an in-depth understanding of the architectural side of construction, Edel thrives in the day-to-day management of construction sites, overseeing the actualization of designs and ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest standards of quality.
Specializing in roles such as Construction Manager, Site Supervisor, Site Agent, Clerk of Works and Construction Engineer, Edel is skilled in interpreting and coordinating architectural, structural and mechanical drawings to ensure seamless integration across all stages of construction. Her attention to detail and ability to manage teams effectively ensures that the building process adheres to both technical specifications and regulatory standards.
In addition to her project management skills, Edel excels at liaising with all stakeholders – including architects, engineers, contractors and suppliers – to ensure smooth communication and the delivery of top-quality results. Her extensive experience in managing the logistics and day-to-day operations of construction sites, along with their commitment to safety and quality control, has earned her a reputation for delivering successful projects.
With a keen eye for design and craftsmanship, Edel also brings a unique set of woodworking skills and a background in graphic design, enabling her to contribute to both the aesthetic and functional aspects of a project. Whether managing a large-scale development or overseeing a smaller, more specialized build, Edel is dedicated to turning blueprints into reality with precision, expertise and professionalism.
Nancy Thuo
Executive Director//STEM coordinator
An IT and administration professional with a strong drive in the field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, commonly known as STEM, and all matters dealing with space. Nancy currently serves as a volunteer director at Mars Society Kenya, where she looks forward to serving in space initiatives with her skills in technical and organizational work. Coupling IT support experience with teaching and project management backgrounds, Nancy’s motivation to inspire others and engage them in the field of STEM-especially the up-and-coming field of space exploration-is strong.
